Elevation Model Generation by Using Radarsat Images

چکیده

Like all other Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR), Radarsat is very sensitive to the terrain shape. Fine details of the ground clearly appear in its image products which enable us to map regions generally not visible by optical systems. Moreover, in the case of tropical and equatorial regions, precise maps are often not available, since the elevation data is totally unknown. The objective of our project is to implement a strategy for computing elevation model from the SAR data acquired by this system. More precisely, we describe in this paper the radarclinometric method that we have performed.

Accuracy Assessment of Radargrammetric Dems Derived from Radarsat-2 Ultrafine Mode

The aim of this study is to investigate the accuracy and reliability of radargrammetric DEMs generated from RADARSAT-2 stereo pairs. Two ultrafine mode images U7 and U26 were acquired over an area in Istanbul from descending orbit, HH polarization, in SGF format. U7 and U26 were taken on August 2, 2009 and July 30, 2009 with view angles of 34.0 35.3 and 48.5 49.5 at the near–far edges, respecti...

Geometric and Radiometric Calibration of RADARSAT Images

Interpretation of SAR images in areas with significant relief requires rigorous calibration considering local illuminated area and incidence angle effects if one is to be able to perform meaningful multitemporal analysis using images acquired with different geometries and/or sensors. Given the large swaths made available by RADARSAT, even comparison of the near vs. far range sections of the sam...

Doppler Algorithm for Modeling Sea Surface Current from RADARSAT-1 SAR Images

This work introduces a new approach for modeling sea surface current from microwave satellite RADARSAT-1 SAR images. The Doppler shift frequency model was modified by using robust model. The modified Doppler shift frequency model was experienced on the RADARSAT-1 SAR data of two different modes (Wide-3 and Standard 2). The results of the study were validated using real time ocean current measur...

Elevation Modeling using Radargrammetry: Case study from Malaysia

This paper presents the generation of DEM using six pairs of Radarsat-1 images for part of tropical terrain in Malaysia. The images were acquired with various beam modes and incident angles and used to generate DEMs by means of radargrammetry based on two SAR imaging models: Range-Doppler and Co-linearity condition equations model. First, the physical basis of these two models was assessed, and...

Automated Extraction of Inundated Areas from Multi-Temporal Dual-Polarization RADARSAT-2 Images of the 2011 Central Thailand Flood

This study examines a novel extraction method for SAR imagery data of widespread flooding, particularly in the Chao Phraya river basin of central Thailand, where flooding occurs almost every year. Because the 2011 flood was among the largest events and of a long duration, a large number of satellites observed it, and imagery data are available. At that time, RADARSAT-2 data were mainly used to ...
